Diversity and Inclusion

"Diversity is being invited to the party. Inclusion is being asked to dance." - Verna Myers

Diversity

Diversity means understanding that each individual is unique and recognising our individual differences.

These differences can be down to race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, age, physical abilities, religious beliefs, political beliefs, or other ideologies.

Watch CBeebies Everyone's Welcome and see what children think about their differences.

Inclusion

Inclusion can mean different things to different people.

“Inclusion is a process of identifying, and breaking down barriers to participation and belonging” - National Children's Bureau (NCB)

It is at the heart of the Early Years and Foundation Studies (EYFS) guidance, which seeks to provide 'equality of opportunity and anti-discriminatory practice, ensuring every child is included and supported'.

When did you last feel completely included, like you really belong? How lovely did it feel?

We want children to feel like that all the time.
