Accessing health services

Lambeth offers a range of health and wellbeing services. They cover areas like physical disability, mental and emotional wellbeing, long-term conditions, and support to help you live a healthier lifestyle to protect you from potential ill-health. NHS South East London CCG (Clinical Commissioning Group) organises them.

Some voluntary organisations also provide health advice and deliver projects to raise awareness about health issues.

Targeted services

Children and young people who have a disability or complex needs that can't be met by services open to everyone may also need help from targeted services.

Occupational therapy

Occupational therapy helps children and young people improve their health and wellbeing. This might be helping them with eating, washing, using the toilet, doing their schoolwork or playing with friends, and hobbies.

Speech and language therapy

Speech and language therapy (SLT) helps children and young people who find communication difficult. It helps with things like:

understanding and interacting with others

attention, listening and memory

talking, speech sounds and stammering

Speech and language therapists (SLTs) also help children and young people who have problems with eating, drinking and swallowing.

SLTs work with children, young people and their families to understand the problems. SLT input might begin before a child starts school. If needed, it may carry on all the way through school.

Physiotherapy

Community physiotherapy help children who are having pain or difficulties when moving. It might be caused by injury, movement disorders, disabilities or another reason.

Physiotherapists look at what is causing problems or discomfort movement. Then they support using therapy and different techniques, like exercise, to help children improve their physical wellbeing.

Child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS)

Lambeth child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS) are provided by the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust.

Every child has a right to be healthy. This includes emotional and mental health. CAMHS aim to deliver a safe, effective and responsive service where children, young people and their families are treated with compassion, kindness, dignity and respect.

Community paediatricians

Lambeth's community paediatricians are a team of specialist children's doctors. They are trained to assess and manage various developmental, physical and social issues that can affect a child’s wellbeing, safety, learning and long-term potential.

Get involved

The CCG pays for hospital and community health services for residents. It wants to give the people of Lambeth accessible, high-quality and easy-to-use services, to help them stay healthy, and to care for them when they fall ill and need extra support.

The CCG is also responsible for monitoring how well these services are provided. They know they need to understand how the people who use the services judge them.
