Public Space Surveillance (PSS CCTV) in Lambeth

Borough wide Closed-circuit television (CCTV), also known as video Public Space Surveillance (PSS), is used to help prevent and detect street crimes like assaults, vehicle thefts, and drugs offences. We are responsible for the monitoring of CCTV in our town centres, open spaces, and housing estates.

Subject access requests

We can only release CCTV footage following a Subject Access Request where third party individuals can be identified if those parties have consented.

We may refuse to provide footage to you if doing so would be likely to prejudice:

  • the prevention and detection of crime
  • the apprehension and prosecution of offenders.

If no data is held relating to your request, or the data falls into a category exempted from disclosure, you will be notified of this in writing.

We are unable to accept Subject Access Requests if you:

  • have been the victim of a crime
  • have been involved in a road traffic collision
  • are an insurance company or legal representative.

If you’ve made a Subject Access Request application under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) it is unlikely to succeed. The chances of Lambeth Council recording any personal data in our images is extremely low, as our cameras are zoomed out to record a wide-angle overview of roads.

Any request made will be dealt with. Delay in dealing with the request may mean video images are overwritten before they can be produced as evidence for applicants.

If your Subject Access Request relates to a crime, please follow the advice above covered in Victims of crime. If it relates to civil claims and third party requests, please follow advice outlined in Civil claims and third party requests.
