Cycle parking

On street cycle stands

In Lambeth, 60% of our residents don’t own a car. We want to encourage more people to cycle (or walk and wheel) for their everyday journeys.

We want to make it easier for people to cycle to the shops, school or other places and have somewhere to lock their cycle.

As part of our Kerbside Strategy, we will prioritise accessible and active travel, and we have made the commitment to provide free cycle parking every 50m on our streets.

Often, this cycle parking will be in the kerbside (the space at the side of the road typically used for car parking) to ensure all pavements are clear and accessible, in line with the Lambeth Inclusive Design Principle.

We provide cycle parking stands in the borough which are free to use. These cycle stands typically look like an upside down “U” installed on the pavement or in the kerbside to keep pavements free of clutter.

Over the coming months, we will be installing more cycle stands. You will soon be able to request cycle stands on any street in Lambeth (apart from TfL roads) by filling in our request form.

Requests will come to the transport team and will be considered alongside other data like existing cycle parking in the area and public transport accessibility levels.
