About us

Health outcomes are unequal across Lambeth for many reasons. These include social, economic and environmental factions. These are also known as the wider determinants of health and are influenced by the work of local government.

Collaborating with the NIHR enables us to become more research-active, embedding a culture of evidence-based decision making.

The NIHR has awarded £50 million to 13 new HDRCs across the UK, to provide the capacity and capability for local authorities to undertake public health research to address the wider determinants of health and health inequalities.

Our vision is to understand and act on the causes of health inequalities in the borough.

We will develop a research collaboration which:

  • Generates new knowledge
  • Identifies and applies existing research to tackle causes of inequality
  • Improve our resident’s health and wellbeing.

This will be underpinned by research, data and evidence which involves local people to inform the council’s decisions and create an integrated health and care system.

The NIHR Health Determinants Research Collaboration Lambeth HEART is part of the NIHR and hosted by Lambeth Council.
