Reducing condensation in your home

  • Try to avoid drying clothes on radiators as this can release moisture that forms condensation on walls
  • Try to open your windows and cover pans when cooking
  • It's helpful to run cold water into the bath before adding hot water
  • Try to keep air vents in walls and doors free
  • Try and ensure your tumble dryer is vented to the outdoors
  • Extractor fans can reduce humidty in your home. Try to close your kitchen or bathroom door when using extractor fans
  • Try to avoid overfilling your wardrobes and cupboards and move furniture slightly away from the wall
  • It can help to open your windows regularly to replace damp air with dry air, especially in the morning
  • In the short term, you can wipe off condensation water from windows and cills every morning with a clean cloth
  • You may be able to use an anti-mould spray following the manufacturer's instructions, and wipe areas of condensation before it can build up
