Streatham Common and Vale By-Election 2024

The Streatham Common and Vale By-Election will take place on Thursday 4 July 2024. This election will determine the local government councillor in the Streatham Common and Vale ward.

Voting by post and proxy

Voting by post means we will send you a posting voting pack so you can complete your ballot paper at home and return it in the post when elections take place.

Voting by proxy means someone you trust voting on your behalf.

The deadline to apply to vote by post at this election was 5pm on Wednesday 19 June 2024

Emergency proxy voting 

The standard proxy voting deadline has now passed, but you may be able to vote by emergency proxy.

In certain circumstances, where you have an emergency that means you can't vote in person, you can apply for an emergency proxy on the following grounds:

  • Medical grounds 
  • Employment grounds
  • Your photo ID is lost, stolen, destroyed or damaged after the deadline to apply for a Voter Authority Certificate has passed
  • You have nominated a proxy to vote on your behalf, and their photo ID is lost, stolen, destroyed or damaged after the deadline to apply for a Voter Authority Certificate has passed

To qualify, the emergency must be something that you weren’t aware of before the normal proxy deadline, which was 5pm on Wednesday 26 June.

For existing postal voters or those whose application for a postal vote we receive by Friday 7 June.

Second and final mailing of postal votes

For postal vote applications we receive between Monday 10 June and 5pm on Wednesday 19 June (the postal vote application deadline for these elections).

Returning your postal ballot 

Your postal ballot needs to be received by 10pm on polling day, Thursday 4 July 2024 to be included in the count. Postal ballots received after this deadline will not be included.

You can return your completed postal ballot pack in one of the following ways:

  • Post it in the pre-paid envelope.
  • Deliver it to Lambeth Town Hall
  • Take it to a polling station on polling day (Thursday 4 July 2024)

If you are returning postal packs other than your own, there is a limit to how many packs you can hand in. You can hand in a maximum of 5 postal packs in addition to your own. 

If you deliver a postal vote pack to a polling station or the Town Hall, you will need to complete a declaration.

Returning your postal ballot 

If you’re registered to vote by post, but have lost, spoilt, or not received your postal vote we sent to you, you can apply for a replacement.

Replacements for lost or spoilt ballots can be issued in person at Lambeth Town Hall between 9am and 5pm on weekdays, from Friday 28 June 2024.

To get your replacement postal ballot, you must bring photo ID and proof of address with you.
