Sports facilities in parks and open spaces

This section contains a list of bookable and non bookable sports facilities in our parks and open spaces.

Terms and conditions

These terms and conditions apply for the hire of:

  • grass or redgra pitches, including football pitches, cricket pitches, artificial-turf pitches
  • Multi Use Games Areas (MUGA)
  • cricket practice nets
  • school sports days
  • basketball and netball courts

Excluded sites which are managed by third parties not covered in these terms and conditions are:

  • Archbishop’s Park sports complex managed by Better (GLL)
  • All tennis courts which are booked are under ClubSpark
  • Clapham Common (Rookery Road) Basketball and Netball court managed by Better (GLL)
  • Myatt’s Fields Park sports facilities managed by Myatt’s Fields Park Project
  • Streatham Vale Park sports facilities managed by Streatham Youth and Play

General

  1. Terms and conditions may be varied from time to time, but hirers will be informed ahead of any changes.

  3. By making a booking to hire a facility, you are agreeing to abide by these terms and conditions and additional facility rules as displayed on our parks, sports and leisure pages.

Use of facilities

  1. Facilities must not be used for any other purpose than that of the booking being made, e.g. sporting activities must not be used for unlawful activity or running a business and they must be used within the times that are booked.
  2. All bookings are non-transferrable and must not be sub-let to third parties. Any instances of unauthorised usage or subletting may result in future bookings being cancelled.
  3. Hirers agree to abide by the Lambeth Parks byelaws as displayed on our parks rules and regulations page and any relevant acts of parliament or applicable legislation.
  4. Hirers are responsible for ensuring that their participants are aware of the rules of use for a facility before activities begin.
  5. Hirers must comply with the following rules:
    • Ensure that any exits must not be obstructed for fire regulations, or obstruct other park users.
    • Flammable materials and naked flames are not to be used on site.
    • Appropriate adult supervision must be provided where participants involve children.
    • Hold appropriate safeguarding training and or qualifications for the applicable activity.
    • Cooperate with and follow instructions as directly by council staff or its nominated representatives.
    • Vacate the facility or pitch by your allotted finish time.
    • No smoking or vaping in buildings or enclosed/fenced facilities.
    • No consuming alcohol in buildings or enclosed/fenced facilities.
    • No animals (other than assistance dogs) will be permitted within buildings or enclosed/fenced facilities.
    • All litter that is generated by participants must be disposed of in waste bins or removed from site completely if they are full. Failure to comply may result in costs being charged for its removal, and if repeated, may result in future bookings being cancelled and refused.
    • No trespassing onto private adjoining property to retrieve balls or any other reason. Courteous contact may made with the owner/occupier by the front entrance to request return of balls should the owner permit.
    • Parking of vehicles for hirers, participants or spectators is not permitted in any Lambeth park or open spaces, except in a designated public car park or where express written permission has been given, and subject to the rules and fees of any such car park.
    • No public address or amplified equipment is to be used unless prior written consent is granted in advance by the council, and subject to any volume and time limits required as a condition of that consent.
  6. The hirer and participants shall indemnify the council against all actions/claims, demands and costs in respect to injury to a person/property arising out of or incidental to the hire and use of our pitches and facilities. In some cases, hirers will be required to provide suitable Public Liability Insurance (£5m) prior to bookings being accepted.
  7. Event bookings may be subject to additional licensing requirements and charges. Hirers are responsible for ensuring they adhere to any licensing requirements and pay any additional charges.
  8. Instructions given by on-site staff should be followed.

One-off bookings

  1. Hirers must complete the full booking process before a booking will be accepted.
  2. Hirers must pay the relevant hire fee prior to the date of the booking before the booking is considered confirmed.
  3. Only payment by card will be accepted.
  4. Only upon email confirmation from the relevant Booking Officer will your booking be valid.

Regular bookings

  1. Hirers must complete the full booking process before a booking will be accepted.
  2. For regular block bookings paying the standard rate, hirers must pay the relevant invoices within 30 days of invoice issue. Non-payment of invoices will result in future bookings being suspended until all outstanding invoices are paid in full.
  3. For block bookers to receive the VAT exemption, a minimum of 10 bookings at a time must be paid for in advance. Rules apply, for more information read about our VAT booking exemptions.
  4. Only upon email confirmation from the relevant Booking Officer will your booking be valid.

Payment

  1. Payment can be made online at the time of booking, via email link sent by the Booking Officer, or via invoice (for regular block bookers).
  2. Discounts will only be applied where applicable.

Cancellations and refunds

  1. Lambeth reserves the right to refuse admission or cancel future bookings, without refund, should hirers or participants behave in an unacceptable or anti-social manner, abuse or misuse facilities or fail to follow reasonable instructions.
  2. Lambeth reserves the right to vary or cancel an allocation of pitch should reasonable circumstances arise, which includes but is not limited to, weather conditions, pitch condition, urgent maintenance, or non-payment by hirers.
  3. In order to receive a full refund, users must have cancelled their bookings at least 5 working days in advance of the booking date. Should the notice period be less than 5 working days, no refund will be given.
  4. One-off bookings can request a refund in the form of a voucher to be used for a future booking or they can request a full refund to their original payment method.
  5. Regular block bookers requesting a cancellation will receive a credit voucher to be used for a future booking.
  6. VAT exempt block bookers are not eligible for refunds. Please refer to VAT booking exemptions.
  7. In no circumstances will Lambeth be liable for any loss or to pay compensation arising in consequence of a cancellation.

Changing room use

  1. Use of changing rooms (where available) must be booked in advance and is separate of pitch hire.
  2. Site must be left litter and mud free as reasonably practicable.
  3. Vandalism, damage or excessive litter/mud may result in costs being charged for additional repairs/cleansing and if repeated may result in future bookings being cancelled or refused.
