Supporting residents affected by the violent incident on Railton Road

Following the serious incident on Railton Road, we’re sharing details of free, independent, and confidential support that is available in Lambeth.

It is devastating to hear that two more of our young people have lost their lives in a violent incident. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families and friends of these young men, and to the whole community, at this terrible time.

When a violent incident takes place in our community, there is a high risk of people experiencing trauma and fear, even if they were not directly impacted. We are determined to provide people with the support and reassurance that they need.

We have a self-care leaflet available in 12 different languages with advice to help people understand how they may react after an incident like this.

There are several specialist support services available:

  • Kooth is Lambeth’s free, safe, online anonymous place for young people to access online support and counselling.
  • Lambeth Talking Therapies Service is available to anyone who is over the age of 18 and registered with a Lambeth GP. You can access the service on a self-referral basis.
  • Victim Support is an independent charity dedicated to supporting people who have experienced or witness crime.  You can access support 24/7 via the free online live chat service or free support telephone line 0808 168 9291.

Over the last week, we have dispatched our Lambeth Council public protection officers, youth outreach workers and “partnership plus” police officers who were present in the area to provide reassurance to residents. We are working with local organisations to provide support where needed, and Lambeth social care staff are available for a confidential conversation.

The incident remains under Police investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call police via 101 quoting reference CAD 6166/30Oct. To remain anonymous call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

However, we also ask that residents remain vigilant and report any issues either directly to the Police using 999 for emergencies. In the case of anti-social behaviour contact the Council’s Public Protection, Assurance & Regulatory Services Team.
