Flats damaged by water ingress on communal roof

22 December 2022

Your request

With regard to IRN14114657, would you please, also, tell me the cause of the ingress? I'd like to see if this ties up with the information supplied by the fire services.

Our response

Further to the enquiry, it's our understanding that the water ingress was caused by a blockage in the internal rainwater pipe from the roof areas above, the likely cause is that leaf fall over many years had slowly blocked the internal pipes. Following notification our contractors cleared the pipes and installed additional rainwater pipes that should prevent this from becoming an issue in the future.  It’s important to stress that the internal pipes was never a part of the external repairs that took place in 2019/20, and it would have been imposable to foresee there being a problem until it occurred as the pipes are internal to the building.

We are unaware of the fire brigades involvement so can not comment on their observations.
