School Nursing Service

Our school nursing service provides a health service to children and young people across mainstream schools in Lambeth and Southwark and for children and young people educated other than at school in Lambeth. The team consists of qualified nurses, school nurses, support assistants who are led by specialist school nurse team leaders. We work all year round, including during the school holidays.

The service is confidential. However, if we receive information that needs to be shared with other professionals, we will try to discuss the reason for this and how the information will be shared with you first. Our core services for children and young people aged 5 to 19 years,

• You can refer to us and we also have a messaging advice line for parents
• We offer holistic health assessments which explore physical, emotional and social health needs
• We offer targeted interventions to support all aspects of health
• We support parents and carers and young people to ensure their health needs are met in school
• We offer well-being clinics to support children and young people regarding COVID-19
• We assess and can make referrals on to specialist services such as the Children’s Mental Health Network (CAMHS), community paediatrics, allergy clinics, The Children and Young People's Health Partnership (CYPHP), sexual health services, children’s social care including Early Help, parenting programmes and referrals to other local community support.
• We work with multi-agency teams to support children with additional needs or children who might be at risk of harm
• We work with teaching staff to deliver health promotion sessions such as: relationship and sexual health (RSE)
• We have a Healthy Weight Specialist Nurse (Lambeth only) to support children aged 5 to12 years old who have been identified as being above a healthy weight
