Installing a charge point at home
Off-street parking
If you have off-street parking you may be able to access government grants to help pay for the installation of a charge point at home.
Smart charging is the preferred charging technology as it saves the user money and limits the stress on the energy network.
- The Energy Savings Trust has up-to-date information on charge point grants.
- The national planning regulations allow for some charge points to be installed, altered or replaced in areas of off-street parking without needing planning permission.
- If you require written confirmation from the council that your installation meets the government requirements and does not require planning permission, please apply for a lawful development certificate.
- If your installation does not meet the government requirements then you will need to apply for planning permission.
Lambeth’s growing EV charging network is being built to allow people to charge their vehicle if they do not have access to off-street parking.
