Have your say on Individual Tree Removal Notices

Lambeth Council aims to increase canopy cover across the borough and aim to plant 5000 trees between 2022 and 2026. Regrettably though, there are instances where we need to fell trees. Most street trees are felled because they are dead, irreparably damaged (for example by vehicle collisions) or decaying to the point where they are structurally unsound. You can email or phone us if you have any comments. Details are within the How to Respond section in the webpage.

Purpose

Lambeth Council aims to increase canopy cover across the borough and aim to plant 5000 trees between 2022 and 2026. Regrettably though, there are instances where we need to fell trees. Most street trees are felled because they are dead, irreparably damaged (for example by vehicle collisions) or decaying to the point where they are structurally unsound. We do not offer consultations on these fellings: they are ordered to maintain public safety.

Occasionally, a highway tree may need to be felled because it is causing damage to property in the form of subsidence. In these cases, under section 115 of the Environment Act (2021) local authorities have legal duty to consult the public on the felling of the tree. An open consultation period is run for 28 days following a consultation notice being placed on the tree.

Please see below current single tree removal consultations and their outcomes.

Tree Removal Notice

Location: outside 72-74 Pathfield Road SW16

Consultation reference: DTC33841

Date notice affixed: 21 August 2024

Following investigations as part of Lambeth council’s normal tree management practices, the Cherry Tree outside 72-74 Pathfield Road has been conclusively implicated in subsidence related damage to property and regretfully, we have concluded that it must be removed to prevent further damage.  Alternative measures such as pruning and pollarding have been considered, but we have judged them to be unsuitable in this case.
