Woodvale Estate Bee Road

At Woodvale Estate we worked alongside the TRA and local residents to plant nectar and pollen-rich spring bulbs into the grass verges around the edges of the estate.  Early flowering crocus will be followed by species daffodils and then tulips and alliums to provide a long season of interest for foraging pollinators.

The council works closely with Woodvale TRA to enhance the grounds for wildlife, with several areas on a reduced frequency ‘cut-and-collect’ mowing regime. This longer grass provides habitat for insects and the chance for flowers to appear. Removing the long grass at the end of summer - rather than cutting more regularly and leaving short clippings to mulch down into the soil - slowly reduces soil fertility over time, which helps more wildflowers to establish.
