Ladas Field Bee Road

Local volunteers planting a new Bee Roads site on Ladas Road in West Norwood

At Ladas Fields, the small green at the end of Ladas Road in West Norwood, volunteers from the Open Orchard Project planted nectar and pollen-rich spring and early summer bulbs around fruit trees.

Bulbs include crocus, species daffodils, tulips and early summer alliums, which will offer nectar and pollen for several months. Again, as with other bulb planting sites, grass will be left to grow for longer, allowing bulb foliage to die back naturally to ensure a good display the following year. These small areas of longer grass will also offer valuable habitat for invertebrates.

The Open Orchard Project is a community project working across West Norwood and nearby areas to plant and maintain fruit trees. To find out more and get involved in their regular volunteering activities, visit Open Orchard.
