Huggins Corner is a small public garden of almost 400 square metres area next to the busy A205 South Circular. After successfully applying for several grants, the St. Martin's Estate Residents Association commissioned Urban Growth in 2023 to help them deliver a transformational project dreamt up by local residents during the recent Covid-19 pandemic.

The project group de-paved a large but neglected corner plot and laid in new soil and wildflowers. A 55 metres-long mural was created on the rear wall of the garden and the traffic bollards were painted by children from nearby Streatham Wells Primary School. The project has transformed a sorry-looking area dominated by into a beautiful public garden which provides shelter and food for many different pollinators including butterflies and bees.

Local residents are now planning further planting in order to further boost biodiversity as well as to help filter out air pollution from the adjacent busy South Circular, along with installation of a book exchange. The working group is looking for volunteers to get involved in regular activities, including weeding, pruning and litter picking, as well as identification of flowers and other wildlife visiting or using this charming little site.
